Make it easy to skip a step during guided recording

The challenge

When you record with a guided template — for example through a QR-code capture flow — you can skip a step, but the option isn't easy to find in the moment. If the situation in front of you doesn't match the shot the template expects next, it isn't obvious how to move past it, so recordings can stall or get abandoned mid-shoot. The person or setting in front of you may only be available for a short window, so a clear, fast way to skip matters. When skipping isn't discoverable, people fall back to unstructured recording even when the guided flow would suit their team better.

Our approach

Make skipping a step obvious during guided recording — for example a clear, always-visible skip control — so you can move past the current step the moment you need to, without leaving the guided flow.

Expected impact

  • Capture the shot that matters in the moment instead of losing it
  • Fewer aborted recordings when the situation doesn't match the template's next step
  • Keep the benefits of guided, structured recording with the flexibility to move on quickly
  • Makes the guided flow viable for field teams who otherwise fall back to unstructured recording
