The challenge Users can already record footage without virtual or blurred backgrounds, but having background options would make it easier to create cleaner and more polished recordings in situations where the recording environment is distracting, messy, or not ideal. Tools like Microsoft Teams and Zoom have made these kinds of background options familiar to many users, so adding similar functionality would improve the recording experience and provide more flexibility. Our approach Enable users to activate or deactivate background effects while recording. This should support both: <ul><li>Virtual backgrounds using an image uploaded by the user</li><li>Light blurred backgrounds that softly blur everything behind the person</li></ul> Anyone recording footage, including guest users, should be able to choose whether to use a blurred or virtual background during recording. After a recording is completed, Project Admins should also be able to apply a blurred background to footage if needed, for example when a guest user recorded without one and the background is distracting. Expected impact <ul><li>Cleaner and more professional-looking recordings when needed</li><li>More flexibility for users recording in imperfect environments</li><li>Less need to re-record guest footage because of distracting backgrounds</li><li>More control for Project Admins when preparing or reviewing footage</li><li>A recording experience that better matches user expectations from tools like Microsoft Teams and Zoom</li></ul>

Virtual and blurred backgrounds for video recordings

The challenge Users can currently swap lower thirds, including moving them between fixed positions such as bottom left and bottom right. However, these positions are still predefined and fixed. When lower thirds, logo graphics, or other non-fullscreen graphics collide with important visuals in the video or with captions, users do not have enough control to adjust the placement. This request is not about fullscreen graphics, but about graphics that only cover part of the video frame, such as lower thirds or logos. Our approach Allow users to manually reposition specific non-fullscreen graphics within the video canvas/frame when needed. Users should be able to move graphics slightly up or down, and ideally drag and drop them to another suitable position on the canvas instead of being limited to fixed presets. Expected impact <ul><li>More flexibility when graphics overlap with captions or important video content</li><li>Better control over lower thirds, logos, and similar non-fullscreen overlays</li><li>Fewer cases where users need to change the video, captions, or graphic choice just to avoid visual collisions</li><li>A more flexible editing workflow while keeping existing fixed left/right position options available</li></ul>

The challenge Mozaik currently handles background music volume fully automatically, including side-chaining. This means the background music volume is lowered when speech is audible in the main video track and increased again when no one is speaking. This automatic leveling behavior is still desired. However, users sometimes need more control over the general background music level. For example, tutorial videos often need quieter background music so the spoken explanation stays clearly understandable, while social media videos or energetic brand videos may benefit from louder music. Our approach Enable users to manually adjust the base volume of the background music in their Mozaik video while keeping the existing automated leveling and side-chaining during speech. Users should be able to make the music generally louder or quieter depending on the video type, without losing the automatic volume reduction when voice is present. Expected impact <ul><li>More creative control over the final video sound mix</li><li>Better fit for different video formats, such as tutorials, social media clips, and high-energy videos</li><li>Continued benefit from automatic speech-aware music leveling</li></ul>

Manual background music volume control

The challenge Users can currently search assets by file name or creator name. This is useful in some cases, but users often do not remember who created a specific clip or what the file was called — especially when clips have generic or random names like “image123”. Our approach Improve the existing asset search functionality so users can find assets based on additional database-backed metadata, especially:<ul><li>Spoken content from video clips, using the transcript</li><li>Notes added to footage items</li><li>Other searchable content or context associated with an asset</li></ul>This would allow users to search for details they remember about a clip instead of needing to remember the file name or creator. Example If a user remembers that they created clips at a trade fair in Hamburg, and the protagonists in the video talk about Hamburg, searching for “Hamburg” should return those clips because the transcript contains that word. Expected outcome Users can rediscover relevant footage faster and more reliably by searching across meaningful asset context such as transcripts, content, and notes — not just file names and creator names.

The challengeMozaik currently supports more classical subtitle styles that are well suited for corporate branding guidelines and formal video requirements. However, more and more videos are created for social media channels where users expect dynamic, animated caption styles similar to Instagram and TikTok.Examples include captions where words fade in word by word, specific words are highlighted as they are spoken, or subtitles use more expressive animated behavior to match short-form social video conventions.Our approachAdd new animated subtitle and caption styles that better match the expectations of social media users. These styles should support more dynamic caption behavior while still fitting into Mozaik’s subtitle editing workflow.Expected impact<ul><li>Better support for Instagram-, TikTok-, and short-form social-video workflows</li><li>More engaging subtitles and captions for videos intended for social platforms</li><li>Less need to use external tools to create animated or highlighted captions</li><li>A broader range of subtitle styles beyond classical corporate subtitle formats</li></ul>

The challenge Users currently cannot add notes or ratings when reviewing video footage or assets inside Mozaik. This makes the footage review process harder, because users need to rely on file names or memory to remember which clips are good, which clips are less useful, and which clips should or should not make it into the final edit.Our approach Allow users to add notes to individual footage items or assets during the review process. These notes should let users capture their thoughts directly on the asset, so they can easily understand their previous decisions when returning to the footage later. Ratings could also help users quickly mark asset quality or usefulness.Expected impact<ul><li>Easier and more structured footage review</li><li>Less reliance on file names as a workaround for remembering clip quality</li><li>Faster decision-making when selecting clips for the final edit</li><li>Better continuity when users return to previously reviewed footage</li></ul>

Add notes and ratings to footage and assets

The challenge Users can currently undo some clip changes through version history, but they do not have familiar undo and redo controls for recent editor actions. This can slow down editing and make experimentation feel less flexible. Our approach Let’s explore classical undo and redo actions in the Mozaik Editor for both projects and templates, with keyboard shortcuts like Command+Z / Ctrl+Z and clear buttons in the editor UI. Editor Undo and Redo

The challengeUsers currently need to switch windows or contexts when editing specific footage or clips. Actions like trimming, cropping, or applying audio effects require users to leave the main editor experience and work in a separate editing window. This slows down navigation and interrupts the editing workflow. Our approachMove clip and footage editing into the main editor window as an inline experience. Users should be able to trim, crop, and apply audio effects directly inside the main editor view without changing context. Expected impact<ul><li>Faster editing workflows with fewer context switches</li><li>Easier navigation while working on footage and clips</li><li>A smoother, more integrated editor experience</li><li>Less friction when making quick edits to clips</li></ul>

The challenge Users currently cannot apply basic color correction or visual adjustments such as brightness, contrast, saturation, or temperature directly inside Mozaik. If they want to make these changes, they need to download or export the video footage, edit it in another color correction tool, and then re-import it into Mozaik. This creates extra work and slows down the editing workflow. Our approach Enable users to make basic color correction and visual adjustments directly inside Mozaik for both videos and images. The challenge Users often need to create similar scenes in projects or templates and only change details like the title or briefing, but rebuilding each scene from scratch adds repetitive setup work. Our approach Let’s make it possible to duplicate an existing scene inside the project and template editor, so users can start from a copied scene and adjust only what needs to change. Scene Duplication

The challenge Users currently cannot change the layout of the Project and Template Editor. Some workflows need a slightly different setup, such as more space for the transcript editor on the right or the timeline at the bottom. Our approach Let’s allow users to customize the editor layout to better fit their requirements by changing the sizing of the scene list, timeline, and right-hand side scene menu.
